Literature Text

It took ten minutes for Lawrence Bradley to realize he was still on the same paragraph, reading without actually reading. He blinked at the page rather dully before opening the bedside table drawer and fishing out a bookmark. The story would not progess tonight, not as long as these thoughts weighted heavily on his mind. He folded up his wire glasses and laid them on top of the book. Sighing, he slouched his way into a more horizontal position.

It would have been a lie to claim he wasn't attracted to her. And Lawrence Bradley was, among other things, a honest man. He was attracted, but he didn't know why.

She was quite sweet, but no more so to him than she was to everyone. Intelligent, yes, but weren't most of his students? They managed a passable enough imitation of intelligence anyway, at least when they showed up for class. She wasn't pretty - and that wasn't a harsh judgement on his part. Autumn Fanshaw was as plain Jane as they made them and he'd taught his share of model-beautiful girls without thinking twice about any of them. No, it wasn't anything of the sort.

He glanced at the clock. 2:37. It was far too late for distorted musings. Or too early. He reached for the bedside lamp. The bulb clicked off and he pulled the blankets to his shoulders.

It's because she talks to you like a person, something had clicked when the bulb had. And not like a teacher she won't have to see again next year. He rolled on to one side with a huff and buried his face into the pillows.

You're too old for this.

"It is 2:37 in the morning Jenna," Autumn rubbed at her eyes with her free hand. "Write your own sodding paper." She didn't give Jen a chance to respond and hit the disconnect just as the first syllable formed.

"Bu-"

She vaguely registered the phone hitting the floor as she fell back into sleep.
I have accepted that I can't keep these two away from the romantic slant. That means I'm relying on you lovely people to WARN ME if the relationship starts getting creepy. The age difference and their roles to each other still make me nervous about writing them, but they are very insistent about going in this direction. I'm not used to my characters being this autonomous. It's terrifying :noes:

Also, I just want to make sure it's understood that these vignettes have nothing resembling continuity, at least not yet. Maybe one day I'll arrange them into something resembling order, but for now I just want everyone to imagine someone took a bunch of photos of this relationship and shoved them into a box in the attic and now I'm picking them out randomly and telling the story that goes with it. What I'm saying is, no one is getting romantic while they're still learning all the names on the roster.

I'll do this in reverse one day, hence the part one of the title :B I like to imagine both of my characters are night owls, at least when they don't have to get up the next morning. What I'm saying is they both love the night life shutupshutupshutupshutupSOMEBODYSTOPME

I love the little bit of comedy in these.
