"Forget your umbrella?"
The teasing note in her voice matched the grin on her face. She opened her pastel blue umbrella and raised it while still under the overhang.
"Where are you parked? I'll walk with you."
He offered a smile back for her cheekiness. Tenured professors don't mind being laughed at on occasion.
"Thank you. I'm just around the building, in the metered lot." Being the taller of the two, he held the umbrella as they set off under the rain.
"Fixing printers, delivering forms... you have a way of showing up when someone needs a bit of help, don't you?" He cocked an eyebrow. She tossed her hair.
"I have a generosity complex. Besides, I can't have my favorite professor melting."
He shuffled the papers he was carrying under one arm and placed the now-free hand over his chest in mock emotion.
"Aw. I'm touched. Really."
"Don't be. I have three classes with you next semester and rescheduling is a bitch."
He laughed at that, a deep hearty sound before retorting back, "I'll remember that when I'm grading your final," and thumping her on the head with the stack of papers.
She pretended to fix her hair, but the grin gave her away.
"That's alright. I'll have words on your evaluation form. Four letter ones."
He laughed again and patted her shoulder fondly.

It was another drabble (with the same characters from this piece), but I had to add in snippets of the conversation I had with Dr. Minnick this afternoon:
Scene: English department lobby. Minnick is doing an advising; he's been coughing a lot lately.
Me: Do you just have really bad allergies or something?
Minnick: nodding I do.
Me: You aren't dying are you?
Minnick: No, well, I AM dying everyday.
Me: Well don't. I have two of your classes next semester and I hate reworking my schedule.
Minnick: Oh, so glad you're concerned about MY health. "Don't die yet, I can't graduate if you do!"
Later:
Minnick: Where WERE you today? You were all spaced out over on Planet Lauren.
Me: I know, I know. I would zone out on the last day of class.
Minnick: You got ONE good comment in today at least.
Later again, going our seperate ways:
Me: Thanks for an awesome semester!
Minnick, from down the hall: You're welcome.
Me: Remind me to bring you an apple.
Minnick laughs as I leave the English department.
