Literature Text

God attended a Lamaze class
with a teenager too afraid
of the judgmental looks to go alone,
and quietly smiled at the instructor eyeballing
the strange pair – a barely-there slip
of a girl and a gentleman with kind
hands. He led her to a woman named
Mary, who had her first child
at thirteen in a less accepting
time, when the condemnation
was worse than the morning sickness.

Luke 1: 26-28

In the sixth month of Elizabeth’s pregnancy, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee, to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. The angel went to her and said, “Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.”

Mary is usually depicted as a woman in art, but more scholarly sources believe she was still a teenager, possibly as young as thirteen, when she gave birth. Some doctrine holds that as a completely sinless person, Mary ascended into heaven without ever dying. Translated literally, "Theotokos" means "God-bearer" - less literally, "Mother of God."

Wonderful. I love the personification of all the individuals in this.

I think I found a typo - "an gentleman with kind hands."
